The Next Generation Starts with the 360

Well the PS3 is probobly a year away but it already has an unoficial slogan: "The Next Generatation Begins with PS3" Personally I beg to difer.

Now normally slogans don't bother me, so an unofficial one should be no sweat right? Wrong, this slogan in the Sony camp is bothersome because people actually believe it. Now before fanboys eat me alive I have no doubt that the PS3 will be a more powerful machine than the 360, heck it might have better games than the 360, we'll have to wait and see on that one though. All I'm saying is the curent PS4 slogan is inherently wrong, Super NES didn't claim to be the first 16 bit machine, the PS2 didn't try to pretend it was ushering a new generation, if they did, gamers wouldn't buy it. so why is everyone buying the fact that PS3 will be the first true next generation system?

Xbox 360 Japanese BC list revealed.

Well Microsoft recently released the list of games that will be compatable with the Japanese 360 and it's short, 12 games (you can view the specifics here: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3145719) The vast difference in BC games from the American to Japanes market is shocking, but I guess Microsoft figures thier wasn't a very high deman for Xbox games anyway so they just cut a few corners with the system in that regard. Still if the 360 fails in Japan a lot of gamers will most likely mention this as one of the rsasons.

In other news something happened last night at midnight on the web, at least three websites (IGN, Gamespt and 1up) all put up 360 reviews last night. (I would use the word premiere but 1up previously had two 360 reviews up) I don't think this was a publicity stunt as much as Microsoft holding a "Lock" on the reviews till midnight last night and all of the sites trying to be the first ones to get thier reviews up. Regardless Kameo reviews are now floating around the net.

Backwards Compatability and the Xbox 360

Well Microsoft has recently released it's list of first wave backwards compatable Xnox games. (you can find it here (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htm) and thiers some good stuff on the list, and some intresting. The list itself ranges from top tier Xbox games like Halo Ninja Gaiden and Fable to games nobody expected to be backwords compatable at all such as Yourself Fitness Super Bubble Pop and the Caballa Big Game Hunter series. Personally it's this later category that gets me most exited as a gamer.

No, I don't have a hankering to play Big Game Hunter on my 360, in fact the genre itself doesn't even intrest me but it shows that Microsoft is serious about making as many games backwards compatable as possible. While some people complain about the lack of games such as Shenmue or The Serious Sam series, I relize that most likely thier coming and they'll most likely be coming with a host of other games that make the total number of Xbox games that arn't compatable with the 360 slimmer and slimmer.

Online Distribution

So Electro Plankton's finally getting released over here on Januay 9th but only through Nintendo themselves and various Online Retailers< and I can't help but wonder if we'll start to see more import games released in America this way. Two games I'd like to see released in this fashion are:

Brain Training for Adults: On another forum someone described this as an almost "Wario Ware" type aplication and you have to admit that would be pretty cool.
Vib Ribbon: The original game came out in Japan six years ago so obviously Sony wouldn't want to release this in a traditional fashion bur since the PS3 will be backwards compatable thier may be hope for online distribution in North America. (Probably not thouggh)
