I have to say, I'm loving the new look. The main page looks much smoother with all that content aesthetically represented. The shorter height's more convenient too, and you can't go wrong with white and beige.

Forumers need to take more advantage of all this community integration. I'm hoping to see some new faces too.

Is anyone out there?

I notice interest seems to have waned from the blog aspect of Modojo. A lot of work has obviously gone into this feature, and the whole synchronisation of the site, and I think it's a damn shame that this aspect appears to be so neglected.

So, if you're reading, please speak up. And let's make some effort to liven up this blog section.

It's spring.

It's spring. The sun is shining outside, the days are getting longer, and there's a calmness about the air. Perfect for a nice leisurely walk. Well, maybe not, this is a gaming community afterall. Let's revise that - perfect to sit outside with your DS for company, perhaps for a few games of Meteos or Mario Kart. In the shade of course, couldn't let that pesky orange ball detract from the gaming experience. And I'm quite happy with my pale face, whether I look like I've spent the last two years trapped inside an underground bunker in Severnaya or not.

So why is it that despite several DS titles sitting unfinished on my shelf, despite the sun shining outside, despite a mountain of college work congregating upon my desk pleading unconvincingly for my attention, I return to a forgotten N64 game from 1998?

Maybe it's the theatrical animation? The melodramatic celebrations? The 'so bad it's good' commentary from B-list commentator Tony Gubba? The humourous player name imitations? That adorable referee: Carlos?

Whatever it is, International Superstar Soccer '98, even after 8 years and countless more soccer sims, still has a grip on me. Whenever I dust off my N64 for a little trip down memory lane, it's always ISS98 that I'll reach for first. Its appeal is hard to pinpoint. It was easily the best soccer game of its day as far as gameplay goes, however that aspect has now easily been surpassed by the Pro Evolution series. And yet, given the choice, I'd much rather play the former, regardless of its relative inferiority. Sure, part of is nostalgia, but more so than that it's the style. It's the fact it's a Japanese game so awkwardly attempting to emulate a Western style. It's torn between an arcade approach and realism, and the end result is something quite calamitous, but quite unique. Quite brilliant. Quite replayable? No, truly replayable.

what a familiar scenario...

And so, as is all too often the case, I am made to endure what I'm sure will be a long week and a half of hearing Americans expressing their adoration for a newly-released videogame, while my poor self in England awaits the European release. I am of course talking about Mario Kart DS.

It could be worse. In fact, it has been worse, much worse; and I have to admit that a wait of ten days is indeed quite short in comparison to previous waits. Nevertheless, there is still some envy, some feeling of injustice...

But I shall save my wrath for online-play. ^_~

Ah, good times indeed

In comparison to yesterday, I must say that today has been very good, and I actually found myself enjoying college... a lot.

During politics we had Vernon Marshall from the Electoral Reform Society come in to discuss his organisation and his views on the various electoral systems with us, which was interesting. As was Theology for that matter, in which we looked at the cosmological argument for the existence of God, and had various discussion around that.

The real fun however, was had during the afternoon, when I had a free-period. A few of my friends were also free at the time, so we played some card games, and had a good time. So much so that I forgot to go to my final lesson. Although it was only part of a complementary course, so I can't say I was too concerned.

I'd forgotten how much fun 52 simple cards and a few lively and competitive personalities can provide.
