Nintendo DS is NOT USED BY CHILD MOLESTORS!

You know what I REALLY hate? People who point the blame for problems in society on video games. They say, "School shootings are occurring more often now because of video games," or "All M-Rated games should be banned because they're influencing our children," or "Creepy 42-year-olds use the DS to stalk kids."

You know what I say? "NO! It's not true!"

This blog is about the Nintendo DS. In my opinion it's one of the greatest game consoles ever, and I'm saving up money to buy one. But why do people (like, say... Fox News?) blame it for giving stalkers something to use to attract kids?

Well disregard all that Fox News says, and let me tell you the non-slanted, true side of the story. It would be more likely for anyone to try and do something like this using Myspace, Youtube, or almost any other U.I. Website! When there's all those websites, people complain only about the DS and say "Uhhh... child molestors use it." Wanna know why they don't? Because IT'S HARDER TO MEET KIDS THAN IT IS WITH THE INTERNET!! That's why!

First of all, unlike the Sony PlayStation Portable, the Nitnendo DS's exclusive feature is not to go online, which right there is one reason that people who say it's used by stalkers don't know what they're talking about. The issue about stalkers is the Pictochat feature, which allows those who have DSs to send picture messages to another person, also with a DS, within a 65-foot diameter.

I don't know why people get so worked up about that simple thing. Pictochat. Out of all the wrong things in the world they could complain about - subliminal messages in music, uncensored TV shows, conditions of livestock in meat factories, reckless driving, underage drinking, and more - they choose pictochat. That is just stupid.

On rare occassions, child predators could feasibly use the Pictochat to try and act friendly with kids, but it's not that often. And if it does happen, get this - use the same logic as you would on the internet and DON'T GIVE OUT YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION! If someone wanted to chat with you using a DS, they'd have to be within 65 feet or it wouldn't work.

Fox News attacked this issue, but guess what? Just like their other news reports, THEY DID IT WRONG!!

Fox News set up an experiment to see how far away two DSs can communicate. They set one on a table and brought up Pictochat. Then the main reporter guy had another DS and was sending messages. He continued to message outside of 300 feet, even. Think Nintendo lied? Duh, NO! Their experiment is entirely flawed!

First of all, the DS can only connect with another DS if both of them are in 65 feet of each other. And if one DS is not moving, the other one can easily find the other one and continue to chat outside of that diameter. It works this was until probably around 900 or 1000 feet, perhaps more or less. If the other DS is moving, then there would be a pretty good chance that the signal might break. Ever consider that, Fox News? Of course not! Because their sole aim is to get you to stop playing video games, and it's because of that that I NEVER WATCH THEIR NEWS!
