Take On Me, Take Me On ...

It's hard to be a child of the 80s and not remember the classic video for A-Ha's track "Take On Me." The integration of pencil sketch animation to live action looked like something out of a cartoon, or dare I say, a videogame. With that song still in mind, I've taken particular notice to the new music video released by the Japanese debut group, The Genki Rockets.
The song, "Heavenly Star," returns the seamless blend of animation and live action that A-ha made famous in their video. However, "Heavenly Star" one-ups their ancestry in my mind, by making their song particularly for a video game. That game being Lumines 2.
Check out the video to see the 80s classic reborn in favor of puzzle game glory:
... and for those not familair with the classic itself, A-Ha's "Take On Me" can be found here. Boss stuff indeed.
Zune, MS Points, & You

Microsoft's "iPod killer" Zune had only been peripherally on my radar, until I saw today's news that Microsoft was using MS Points (the same currency used on Xbox Live) to charge for music tracks.
When you take this news, and add it to the major rumblings the company has been making with Microsoft Live Anywhere, you end up with something that is actually really freaking cool. Like, maybe really really. If Microsoft can pull it off.
Imagine buying 1600 MS Points ($20 worth) on your Xbox, through Microsoft.com, or wherever. You can then buy songs for your Zune for 79 points (ie $1) a pop. Then you pick up Chess or Uno or Geometry Wars for your 360 for say 400 points ($5).
Here's where it gets potentially cool. Maybe for an additional 200 points (just $2.50) you can also get a Zune version of the game, to play anytime you're on the go. Or thanks to Live anywhere working with BREW, Java, and other mobile languages you could get the phone version for that price.
Apple may have gotten the jump on MS with iPod games, but if there's one area where the Zune could potentially best Apple right from the word go, it's gaming. While Apple is selling their games for $5, Microsoft could be selling versions for the 360, Zune, and your phone in a bundle for say $10. The idea of having one currency for Xbox Live games and maps, mobile games, and Zune games+music is a powerful one.
Zune is officially on my radar.
[edit] And how could I have forgotten Windows PCs! I work off a mac now, and own a shiny new 5G iPod, but there's no denying that paying one price to have Zuma on a PC, my 360, and my phone, is a sweet, sweet vision. Make it happen, MS.

Drunken Mechassault!

So, funny story here.
My friend and I were taking on a two-player battle in Mechassault for the Nintendo DS, and apparently his girlfriend thought it would be fun to turn it into a drinking game. Now, of course, I'm not one to turn away a lovely woman's suggestion (or get hit with a rolling pin), so I said "Sure, let's play." Next thing I know, I'm bombarding him with kill after kill, and about thirty five minutes later or so, he's too sloshed to even handle his mech. With that, she took him into the bedroom to get some sleep, and I walked back to my apartment.
And then I began to ponder. Hmmm...maybe this was her plan all along...?

More Super KO Boxing Love

We've given Super KO Boxing plenty of love since we first saw the game, including a very-rare 5/5 review, but in my opinion the game could always use a little more attention. Our friends over at QuicklyBored have put up a video of the game in action, and I figured it was a perfect opportunity to heap some more attention onto our latest addiction:
Pictures are worth 1000 words, so surely videos must be worth 1000... pictures? ...I dunno. The point is that Super KO is sweet, so just watch the video.
