Older Gamers

This has been a sore spot of mine for some time. I fondly recall "helping" my kid with his first N64 games (Rogue Squadron & Ocarina of Time), but now, I can't even see the screen on his DS! I'm a diehard fan of the dichotomous GTA series and Animal Crossing (the original GC version), but now, am so often unable to work the minuscule buttons and get eyestrain from squinting at the tiny screen, I've not had the chance to sample much of "Wild World". We don't have a PSP, nor does my kid want one, as he's played "Liberty City Stories" and say it "reeks" on the small screen.

Don't get me wrong, I see why the portable world of DS (and possibly PSP, but I won't comment since I haven't used it) appeals to kids. As my kid informs me, he can see everything "just fine" and was always a whiz with the D-pad. What I don't get is why Nintendo and other game makers would whip up these (obviously) incredible sequels to fantastic games, only to make them unplayable for most of us older gamers...I mean, the GTA series already HAD that "Mature" label slapped on it like The Scarlet Letter, thanks to the ridiculous "Hot Coffee scandal" >:( ....So, if they're clearly marketing to adults (that would be me), why not at LEAST rig up something that allows us to play the games on a large screen? They had it for the regular GBA and SP...why not the DS?

That's all I ask. Well, that and to bring back Tommy Vercetti. My other not-so-crazy-as-it-seems idea is to COMBINE the worlds of GTA and Animal Crossing. Wouldn't it be great to whack annoying animals with baseball bats, or even plug them, instead of using a BUG NET? Or take Kapp'n out for a spin in your motorboat and dump him somewhere! Conversely, I'd LOVE for the GTA main characters to be able to deck out their pads like the AC players can. We got a bit of that in San Andreas, which was nice (being able to wear a tux, for instance!).

Sure, I know it won't happen, but I can dream, right?
